Going...Going...Gone! Arizona Diamondbacks Gerardo Parra Now Has Something in Common With Pete Rose
Arizona's 1-0 win over the Miami Marlins gave the Diamondbacks a record of 25-18 and a one game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the NL West. The one run came courtesy of a solo home run by Gerardo Parra in the first inning.
What does that have to do with Pete Rose? Well, the home run--and only run--came on the first pitch of the game. The last time that happened...

Over the past three seasons, while playing mostly in a part-time role in Arizona's crowded outfield, Parra has totaled nine, 12 and eight assists, with the middle number coming in 2011, when he earned his first Gold Glove.
He also already has six assists this year, leading...

Brandon McCarthy Rebounds With Shutout of Marlins
Brandon McCarthy was dominant on Saturday, blanking the Miami Marlins for his first win not only with the Arizona Diamondbacks, but also since being struck in the head with an Erick Aybar line-drive on August 5, 2012 against the Los Angeles Angels.
McCarthy registered his third career shutout (his first since September 3, 2011 against the Seattle Mariners) in a 1-0 victory over the...
Paul Goldschmidt Homers Twice to Lead Arizona to Victory
Paul Goldschmidt’s two home runs led the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 9-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Friday night, the first game in a three-game series in Miami.
The two-homer game is Goldschmidt’s second multi-home run game in his young career, the first occurring on May 18, 2012 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He would finish the game with a career high 4 hits and 4 RBI...
Heath Bell’s Return To Dominance
With J.J. Putz‘s elbow hurting, the Diamondbacks have turned to Heath Bell in the closer’s role. Tuesday night against Atlanta, Heath Bell converted his fifth save in six last-inning save opportunities in impressive fashion: after the first baserunner reached on an error, Bell struck out Evan Gattis and Dan Uggla swinging before retiring Chris Johnson on a fly ball to center...
Chavez, Kennedy allow D-backs clean getaway
PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks did enough things well in their 5-3 victory over the Braves on Wednesday afternoon that the clubhouse chatter afterward included talk about wifi reception and the availability of Pandora on their evening charter flight to Miami.
A stuffed kangaroo with a lucha libre mask sat in Eric Chavezs locker stall, and all was right with the world.
The D-backs...

D-backs' Kubel dealing with another quad issue
PHOENIX -- There is a reason left-handed power bat Jason Kubel has not been in the starting lineup against right-handers the last two days.
Kubel recently aggravated the left quadriceps injury that landed him on the disabled list a week into the season, and the D-backs are proceeding with caution in hopes that he does not need another stay on the disabled list.
Just trying to get...

Trademark command still evading D-backs' Miley
PHOENIX -- In a stellar 2012 season that saw him win 16 games and finish second in NL Rookie of the Year voting, Diamondbacks pitcher Wade Miley made command his calling card. He gave up 1.7 walks per nine innings, or roughly one every five innings pitched.
But so far this year, Miley's command has betrayed him, as the lefty is giving up more than twice as many walks and has...

Gibson: Bell to take over as D-backs' closer
LOS ANGELES -- Heath Bell believes closers are born, not made, and he is back in that role after an elbow injury forced J.J. Putz to the disabled list Wednesday. It is not how Bell would have chosen to return to the ninth inning, but he does like the fit.
I just thrive in it, Bell said.
You know how they say closers are just kind of weird and out there. Born that way. I think Im...

First base coach pays price for inattention, gets hit in crotch with pickoff throw (video)
For some unknown reason that defies comprehension, the below video of a first base coach getting hit in the crotchal region by a pitcher’s pickoff throw took nearly a year to begin garnering attention on the interwebs. That’s right, this video was originally uploaded to YouTube way back in May of 2012 but it wasn’t until the past few days that it started making the rounds....
