Sacramento Kings Rumors: JaVale McGee Addresses Retirement Rumors Ahead of 2024 Free Agency
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

Sacramento Kings center JaVale McGee just finished his 15th season in the NBA and is set to hit free agency this summer. Despite getting up there in age since he turned 36 years old in January, the three-time NBA champion said that he has no plans of hanging up his sneakers for good just yet.

“Just to play basketball. Keep focusing, keep working,” McGee said when asked what’s next for him via NBC Sports California on Friday.

After he was released by the Dallas Mavericks, JaVale McGee and the Sacramento Kings agreed to a one-year contract. During the 2023-24 campaign, McGee was the third-string center behind Domantas Sabonis and Alex Len for Sacramento, averaging 4.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in 46 games.

“I feel like my experience was fine. Great group of guys, Obviously, we wanted to go further and at least make the playoffs and go far in it, but it didn’t work out. But hey, it happens sometimes,” JaVale McGee said on his year with the Sacramento Kings.

“We just got to make sure we lock in this summer, everybody get their work in, and make sure they do what they need to do so we have a great season next year,” he added.

“Great veteran, big time. He helped everyone – from me, Foxy, all the way down to G League guys,” Domantas Sabonis said on JaVale McGee. “Always present, always had his great attitude, and held us accountable for everything.

Looming contract decisions for the Sacramento Kings

JaVale McGee is not the only player that the Sacramento Kings have to decide on since Alex Len, Malik Monk, and Kessler Edwards are the other notable players who will hit free agency this offseason.

The most impactful player in the group is Malik Monk, their sixth man, after he averaged more than 15 points and five assists this season.

Monk is too important for the Sacramento Kings to let him walk away for nothing, although the good news is that he expressed his desire to remain in Sactown.
